This is an unprecedented time in the world with the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to spread. As a family owned and operated business, we value the health and safety of our employees, families, customers, and community. We recognize that agriculture is an essential industry and seed plays an integral part in your spring operations. Court Seeds will continue to operate our business as usual but we ask that you do your part to limit everyone’s exposure.

For the upcoming spring we will be implementing the following procedures for seed pickups:

• Customers must call ahead to schedule a pick up time. This will allow staff to be prepared and reduce loading times, as well as limit the number of customers on site at one time.
• Truck drivers must stay with their truck and not enter the office or shop. Staff will meet you outside to confirm your order and direct you to your loading location.
• Please keep a minimum distance of 6 feet from all staff and other customers. While we do understand the need to socialize, the health of our staff and families is our top priority.
• We will continue to provide drivers with scale tickets but we will not be collecting signatures. If you would prefer that we text or email your paperwork please let us know in advance.

For all other business matters we ask that you call, text, or email rather than a personal visit. This situation is evolving daily, and we promise to keep you posted as we head into the busy spring season. Let’s all work together to keep our families and communities safe and healthy.

Soybeans

DKB003-29 RR2X – A mid-maturing variety with excellent tolerance to IDC and white mould; medium-tall and branchy.

DKB005-52 RR2X – A long maturing variety with strong tolerance to Phytophthora, IDC, and white mould; medium-tall height with excellent standability.

NSC Newton RR2X – A mid-maturing variety with tall height and strong early season vigour; above average white mould tolerance.

NSC Sperling RR2X – A long maturing variety with strong yield potential and early season vigour; excellent tolerance to IDC and white mould.

Canola

L234PC – An early maturing hybrid with both pod shatter and multi-genetic clubroot resistance; strong standability and good yield potential.

L255PC – A mid-season hybrid with very high yield potential; strong standability and pod shatter resistance make it ideal for straight cutting.

DKTF 92 SC – A mid-season, straight cut variety with TruFlex technology, which will enable improved weed control through flexible glyphosate application rates and timings. *Pending commercialization

Looking to try something new in your crop rotation? Consider winter wheat!

Winter wheat is often considered a less favourable option than spring crops because of the additional planning and workload in fall, as well as the inherent risk of winter kill. However the benefits to including a winter crop in your rotation may far outweigh the risks.

Did you know winter wheat yielded 19% higher than CWRS over the past 4 years in Western Canada? (source) This high yield potential often results in a greater return on investment compared to other cereal crops.

Fall seeding means a decreased workload in the spring and guarantees you will have some early crops in the ground when you have a cold, wet spring. This also translates to an earlier harvest and a more efficient use of all your equipment.

The use of winter crops has also been shown to reduce annual spring weed populations and help to manage herbicide resistance. In addition, your soil will be protected from wind and water erosion throughout the year and you can take advantage of that early spring moisture in dry years.

Court Seeds has two varieties of winter wheat available this fall: AAC Gateway and AC Emerson. Both varieties have been top performers in our local area and each offer their own unique benefits. Check out the links and give us a call for more information.

NSC GLADSTONE RR2Y

Available to growers for the first time in 2014, NSC Gladstone RR2Y soybeans from
NorthStar Genetics has exceeded expectations in this area of Manitoba.

Gladstone is proving to be a dependable variety with consistently high yields and on time maturity.

NSC VITO RR2Y

Another reliable soybean variety from NorthStar Genetics, NSC Vito RR2Y has proved to be a reliable producer on our farm.

We’re seeing good returns in all conditions from Vito which produces early-maturing plants with a very high pod set. Vito is recommended for rolling or rocky land.

Two varieties – excellent traits:

• Early maturing
  • Gladstone: 2375 CHU
  • Vito: 2350 CHU
  • Even planted late on our farm, the plants matured on time.
• Top Yields
  • Both Gladstone and Vito beans have produced top yields in the last three years.
